What is Epoxy?

Epoxy resin is scientifically known as Polyepoxide. Unlike paint, which dries by evaporating. Epoxy is cured by a thermosetting chemical reaction. The curing process happens when you mix the epoxy with a hardener. That hardener sets off a chain of events that quickly sets the epoxy, and anything in it. When the epoxy is completely cured the end result is extremely tough and durable.

There are many advantages when you epoxy your concrete floor.

  • It creates a protective system of layers that bond to the concrete, and protect the concrete for many years.

  • Floor becomes waterproof andsnow proof, its very easy to clean off.

  • Top coat is UV resistant

  • Flake option is ideal as it adds texture to create a more non slip surface

  • Modernizes your area and creates a professional look while at the same time having many helpful benefits

Garage or basement concrete floor

This is an example of a garage before and after. The cement is fairly new with moderate staining. light surface grinding was needed to ensure the epoxy bonds. Concrete with no cracks and minimal repair will cost you less in the end. The most important step is the surface preparation.

Before                                  After

Sometimes floors can be very uneven and have areas that would still be visible through the epoxy finish. Think of painting the outside of a rock, and how you can still see the tiny blemishes. Epoxy, Urethane, and all polymers are expensive materials. Flake is inexpensive compared to the latter and does a great job hiding those little blemishes.

Flake Finnish gets it name from thethe next day any flake that landed in the epoxy is now part of it. Add a layer of clear epoxy or urethane on top and you've got a beautiful floor with extra strength  and profile.
